New York, NY-The Ebony Strings Quartet, comprised of Stephanie Matthews and Naira Underwood (violins), Adiza Sanchez-Rahim (viola), and Patrice Jackson (cello), was established at The Juilliard School in 2006. The Ebony Strings Quartet strives to achieve the highest level of musicianship and is dedicated to exploring primarily new works. String quartet works have already been commissioned by composers Cristina Spinei, Dr. Samuel Zyman, Nathan Bugh, Ulysses Owens, and Ricardo Romaneiro. Ebony Strings at The Peter Jay Sharp Theater December 8-9, 2006

The Ebony Strings were invited to participate in the December 2006 ChoreoComp concert at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater in Lincoln Center. ChoreoComp involves the creation of original works by six third-year dancers choreographing and six graduate-student composers writing music, working in pairs. The Ebony Strings, in collaboration with composer Cristina Spinei and choreographer Chanel DaSilva, will debut a dance piece for string quartet, double bass, and piano.
